Microsoft-HP appliance

this link talk about four new appliances

  • HP Business Decision Appliance, a system that performs business intelligence duties running on SQL Server 2008 R2
  • SharePoint 2010; the HP Enterprise Data Warehouse Appliance which runs SQL Server 2008 R2 Parallel Data Warehouse software
  • the HP E5000 Messaging system running Microsoft Exchange Server 2010
  • the HP Business Data Warehouse Appliance, which also runs SQL Server 2008 R2 along with Microsoft’s Hyper-V Cloud

since few details are available (all spec links are not yet active)

some things  to note:

  • MSFT is 1st line of support
  • HW cost include 3 years support
  • SW licenses are separate
  • pre-integration at factory
  • cannot modify configuration (e.g appliance)

As oracle move away from “appliance claim” for exadata and exalogic system, it will be interesting to see how MSFT-HP will claim these appliance  are true appliance
